How We Began
Here is the story of how we came to serve as live-at-home missionaries in the Utah Layton Mission. We served a full-time mission in Oaxaca, Mexico from July 2016-December 2017. It was a very special time of our lives. (Our blog for that mission is ourworkinoaxaca.blogspot.com.) In 2019 we were contemplating serving another full-time mission, likely at the MTC in Mexico City. However, COVID-19 kept us from serving there, and in 2021 we heard of the need for Spanish speaking couples in our mission here at home, the Utah Layton Mission. We checked into it, submitted our application, and were called. We began our service in July 2021, five years after beginning our first mission.
Although this blog will not have the many photos and exciting adventures as our blog for our Mexico Oaxaca Mission, we are still excited to serve another mission and especially to be able to serve with the beautiful Spanish speaking people in the area.
There are 13 Spanish speaking wards in the mission (from Roy to North Salt Lake) and the mission presidency asked us to begin by visiting all 13 wards and then decide where we could best serve the members and young missionaries. We found that some wards are very strong, while others are not so strong and have fewer members who attend. We will be focusing our time on the Parkway Ward in North Salt Lake, and the Mt. Ensign Ward in Centerville.
